Will you be planning a fashion show this year? If you said, yes, then you will need to make sure you understand the basics and follow a structured outline.
There are several factors to consider when hosting a fashion show. Garment selection is one of them. As a fashion show producer, one must focus on the main purpose which is to sell the designer’s clothing line.
Here is a list of ideas that should be collected and accompanied with garments for a fashion show.
- Start with an ideal chart which is a projection of the merchandise to be presented in the fashion show. This chart is used as a guide for selection of garments.
- Determine the accessories for each garment and which models will be needed.
- The merchandising division will need to do research to identify trends and apply them to the fashion show.
- Merchandising categories should be considered such as casual, intimate, bridal, special occasion, sports and evening wear.
- The coordination of outfits must also be considered and how the garment will flow together.
- Garments collected must correspond with the theme of the show.
- Accessories should be tagged and positioned near the merchandise with which they will be worn to allow models and dressers to make smooth changes.
To learn more about producing a fashion show refer to the Guide to Producing a Fashion Show. This is an excellent book to learn about the process from start to finish. Also, it was a required text for my fashion production course.
