Hello and Welcome to my blog!

My inspiration for writing this blog is to share my crafty ideas and my DIY fashion journey.

I was inspired to make this vintage yo-yo necklace for my mother for Mother’s day!  Yo-Yo quilting was a craft that my grandmother used to loved to do. This stitching technique dates back to the 1920’s and was very popular in the southern states. My grandmother used to make quilted yo-yos into pillows and blankets with a variety of different colors.

Well, here’s how I made my yo-yo fabric flowers.

Materials:

Fabric

Needle & Thread

Cut out a circle from your fabric. (You can use a cup or any size circle item to make your circle) and then place the fabric on the wrong side and fold the edge about 1/2 inch. I actually found some pre-cut yo-yo fabric at my local craft store.

Double-thread a needle with enough thread to sew around the circle and gather stitch by sewing from the wrong side through both layers (back and front) of fabric (the fold-over portion).

After you’ve sewn around the circle, pull the thread gently and tightly to gather the fabric to close.  Secure by sewing a couple of stitches across the center.

You can also make several yo-yo flowers and attach them to a chain to make a necklace or add them to a shirt, tote bag or clothes.
